Talaash Movies Review Theater Report

Written By Rigin george on Friday, 30 November 2012 | 22:31

Cast: Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor
Direction: Reema Kagti
Rating: ****
Reema Kagti's 'Talaash' is a suspense thriller that not only boasts of a taut script but has a multi-layered structure that manages to pack in enough surprises to keep the viewer hooked till the very end. The storyteller's craft lies in the fact that the modus operandi of the plot seems as intriguing as the motive of the crime.
Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) is investigating the death of actor Armaan Kapoor (Vivan Bhatena) whose car seems to have suddenly veered out of control and plunged right into the sea. Considering the actor was neither under the influence of alcohol/drugs nor was he suicidal, the death throws up a lot of unanswered questions. The plot thickens when Armaan's widow informs the police that the actor had withdrawn Rs 20 lakh on the day of his death, raising suspicion that he might have been a victim of blackmail or extortion.
One of the prime suspects in this case is a pimp and during the course of his investigation, Shekhawat meets a prostitute Rosy/Simran (Kareena Kapoor) who intermittently divulges credible information that helps the police make significant headway every time they seem to be reaching a dead end.
While the police are still trying to make a breakthrough in this complex mystery, we realize Shekhawat is a deeply conflicted man. He is struggling with suppressed grief and guilt since he lost his eight-year-old son. He also makes vain attempts to hold on to his troubled marriage as his wife Roshni (Rani Mukerji) tries to come to terms with her loss.
Nawazuddin Siddique stands out among the supporting cast with another compelling performance. Rani Mukerji as the bereaved mother essays an understated and convincing portrayal. Kareena is good as the flirtatious and slightly mysterious hooker. But Aamir Khan's performance stands head and shoulders above the rest. He delivers a complex role with complete ease, one moment he is a ruthless cop and in the next, he is an anguished father grappling with his son's death, vulnerable yet strong.
Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti weave an intricate narrative and deserve applause for the brilliant plot execution. For me, the success of any good film is measured by the degree to which it can engage the audience. In the climax when Shekhawat applies the emergency brakes, it is as if the viewer on their seat feels the sudden jolt, like they were on the backseat of his car.
The idea might not be strictly original but watch it for the way the story unfolds.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is an upcoming Bollywood film produced and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra; starring Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor. Milkha Singh has sold the story for just one rupee. The remuneration from movie will be used for the benefit of needy athletes. The name of the movie comes from the last words spoken by his father, which was to save his life from the riots of during Partition of India. During the partition, Milkha lost his family members. The story talks about his perseverance as an athlete and also as a courageous human spirit.

Rahman was supposed to do the music, but later the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy was confirmed as the composers for the film.  The shooting of the film is scheduled to begin in mid 2012.
Farhan Akhtar
Essaying the role of an athlete is not easy. After undertaking a rigorous regime to get into the character of Milkha Singh, Farhan Akhtar will now have to work hard to look like the 17-year-old sprinter in the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
'Farhan worked really hard to look at least 10 years less than his actual age to look like Milkha in the 1960s,' said a source. 'Farhan would now have to knock off another 10 years from his real age to look like the 17-year-old Milkha, the army-boy in the 1950s.'
Farhan, who spent a lot of time researching the army for his war film Lakshya, would undertake at least a fortnight of on-the-spot training in an army cantonment to get the hang of that particular phase of Milkha's career.
Bhag Milkha Bhag story and synopsis will be available soon.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola

Director Vishal Bhardwaj introduces the characters of his upcoming film Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola:

The film is a comedy set in Haryana. Even though people from there are straight-faced, they have a serious and strange sense of humour.

Matru: While on a recce in Haryana, we were looking to name our three characters when I saw a hoarding saying 'Vakeel Rajesh Matru'. From there, Matru, played by Imran Khan, got his name.

Bijlee: Bijlee has always been used in the past as a name for a girl who is like an item number. In the story, there is a problem of electricity in the village. So the backstory of the film is that her mother, by bringing the first generator in the village, brought electricity there and named her daughter Bijlee.

Mandola: We found that a number of people in Haryana attach the name of their village to their own names. Mandola in Haryana sounded interesting and so we named Pankaj Kapur's character Mandola.

Gulabi: She is a character in the film and is our item girl. She is a pivotal character who changes the life of the characters when she makes her entry. While she does not dance in the film she smiles throughout.

Story: Matru's family has been serving Mandola for generations. Mandola, who has studied inOxford and owns limousines, has chosen to live in his village. His problem is that he is an alcoholic. After getting drunk he becomes a villagewala and when he is sober, he becomes a materialistic man.

The film is a contrast of the limousine and the desi sharab ka theka. I wanted to bring this madness of India where a limousine gets stuck in a small alley, by going a little over the top and being a bit edgy. Matru and Bijlee are the same age and have grown up together. Matru studies LLB in Delhi University but does not get a job and comes back to his village to take up his family profession of serving the Mandola family. Also, he loves Mandola's daughter, Bijlee, a total rebel with tattoos all over her body and does all those things that are forbidden and scandalous in a village. For instance, she jumps into the pool in a bikini. Bijlee later goes to Oxford to study and falls in love with Arya Babbar's character.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, presented by Fox Star Studios and produced by Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures, releases on January 11.

Aamir Khan Talking About New Film Talaash
Actor Aamir Khan, who plays a cop in his next film "Talaash", says the script, which is thrilling yet emotional, attracted him most to the project.
"For me, it was the script. When I was listening to the script, I was very stressed and tense as I could not predict what is going to happen (in the story). So I found the story very exciting," said Aamir.
The actor, who spoke on the sidelines of a recent event here, says the movie goes beyond being a mere thriller.
"It's not only a drama and a suspense, but also a very emotional story. We all love someone or the other, who is close to us - our parents, our children, husband or wife, or lover. We are always scared of losing them," he said.
Directed by Reema Kagti, "Talaash" also stars Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor. It hits the screens

Salman to make cameo in Atul Agnihotri's next?

Salman Khan KIDS TIGER After the success of the 2010 film "Bodyguard", producer Atul Agnihotri is busy working on a political satire. He says he is planning to rope in his brother-in-law, actor Salman Khan for a guest appearance in the new movie, which is yet to be titled.
"We are designing something special for Salman Khan in this film, but nothing has been finalised yet. Salman is aware of this film as he was involved with it from the script level. He is very happy with the script," Agnihotri, who is married to Salman's sister Alvira, told IANS.
"Let us see how things fall in place. Once we get a confirmation, only then I can talk about it," he added.
Agnihotri considers Salman as his lucky mascot and had cast him in his earlier projects like "Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa", "Hello" and "Bodyguard". In "Hello", Salman had a cameo.
For his new project, the director says he has cast fresh faces.
"This film is a political satire and the script demanded a fresh cast. We finished the first schedule in New Delhi in October. The second schedule will be shot in Mumbai soon," he said.
Agnihotri turned producer in 2008 with "Hello", and later he produced the blockbuster "Bodyguard", which turned out to be a blockbuster.

Ajab Gazabb Love Review

Movies Review: Ajab Gazabb Love

cast: Jackky Bhagnani, Nidhi Subbaiah, Arjun Rampal, Kirron Kher
Direction: Sanjay Gadhvi
Rating: *

I am convinced 'Ajab Gazabb Love' was just made so that Jackky Bhagnani could add another film to his filmography. The plot follows the most predictable trajectory possible, there's not even a feeble attempt at anything original and it hardly qualifies as a romantic comedy.

Rajveer Grewal (Jackky Bhagnani), spoilt rich kid who has built a dream car very innovatively called DC, falls hook, line and sinker for dusky girl coming down the escalator. Lovestruck hero manages to track down the 'escalator' girl with the help of a passing glance at a sociology book she is carrying. Before he can express his love, he realizes the object of his affection hates rich people and gets all high-pitched and angry when she sees them.

How must our hero amend this impossible situation? Quite simply by pretending to be a poor, educated and hard working mechanic. Predictably one lie leads to another and before we know it the entire Grewal family has to make commendable impersonations as banana-selling father, blind mother, alcoholic brother and so on.

There are rare moments of genuine humour; like Kirron Kher's over-the-top acting (much like her filmi mother avatar in 'Om Shanti Om'), Arjun Rampal's double role as the girl's twin brothers and Arshad Warsi's cameo as the South-Indian servant pretending to be a rich friend.

The film is peppered with forgettable songs and a few close-ups of Jackky's well-sculpted body. Sanjay Gadhvi's film leaves much to be desired with a predictable love story, humour that often falls flat, performances that is completely average and below par music/lyrics.

Son of Sardar Movies Review

Son Of Sardar Movies Review And Theater Report

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt
Direction: Ashwni Dhir
Rating: *1/2

Ajay Devgn's Diwali gamble didn't quite pay off this time. A film like 'Son of Sardar' can work on two accounts, either on the merit of star power or on the quantity/quality of amusing gimmicks that the makers can pack in. However, with a flimsy plot and inadequate humour, the story fails to take off.
Simply put, it is a bloody revenge saga where Jassi (Ajay Devgn) and Billu (Sanjay Dutt) belong to the opposite camps. Jassi comes to India to sell off an ancestral property and wants nothing to do with the existing family hostility but the Sandhus are still waiting to settle the score. Predictably he falls in love with Sukh (Sonakshi), the girl from the enemy camp and he must now, not only fight for his life but also his love.
Jassi discovers that the only way to save himself is to remain a guest in the Sandhu household and thus, follows tedious hide-and-seek sequences where the Sardar tries to pull off one daft trick after the other to avoid the talwar. The action sequences and the gags don't pack in enough punch to lift the sagging narrative.
Sanjay Dutt's angry/soft flip-flop and his incomplete love story with Pammi (Juhi Chawla) make for the few moments of genuine laughter. Rest of the humour and the funny one-liners are either oft repeated or annoyingly slapstick. Sonakshi is spot on as the perky Punjabi kudi.
I don't care if the film is a remake or if it's inspired from elsewhere, as long as it is well done. Every once in a while, I love nothing better than a mindless comedy where you can put logic and sensibilities aside and just enjoy the film. However, the film needs to entertain, some good music, witty antics, well-directed action sequences peppered with some Bollywood masala'; sadly 'Son of Sardar' has none of these elements.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Review

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma
Direction: Yash Chopra
Rating: ***
There is a reason why Yash Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan are called the Kings of Romance, they have managed to weave one unforgettable love story after the other that remains etched in our memories. 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', Yash Chopra's last directorial venture had created ample pre-release buzz and the anticipation in the theatre was palpable. 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' is yet another impossible love story made believable by the conviction of the makers.

Movies Review: Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Samar Anand (Shah Rukh) does odd jobs in London for sustenance, needless to say our quintessential Bollywood hero is multi-faceted; he croons, he grooves, he has a heart of gold and he is charmer all the way. On a cold London night, while cleaning snow from the sidewalks, Samar falls for the beautiful Meera (Katrina Kaif), Indian billionaire's daughter who is always negotiating with God and cutting deals to accomplish her unfulfilled wishes. Quite obviously their love for each other is mired by impossibilities.
Yash Chopra romances are historically high on sacrifices and the two besotted lovers are driven apart by circumstances. Our suave odd-job man is now Major Samar Anand, nicknamed 'The man who cannot die' because of his daredevil acts of courage. Rookie documentary filmmaker, Akira (Anushka Sharma) wants to film the fearless bomb squad head and needless to say, the feisty kudi soon finds herself falling hook, line and sinker for our intense army man.
Unrequited love and loyalty, pangs of separation and characters with a propensity for sacrifice; these are all familiar tropes in Bollywood but Yash Chopra has his way of creating the perfect mise-en-scène and converting you into a believer. For die hard romantics, philosophies like 'There is a time for every love story' is sure to become a mantra, much like, 'Someone somewhere is made for you'.
At 47, Shah Rukh, still strikes the right notes as the typical romantic hero. Anushka essays her part with ease but Katrina still needs to work on getting the emotional parts right. Rahman's music too doesn't really grow on you after you have watched the film.
JTHJ doesn't quite stand out like some of Yash Chopra's previous works and the pace of the second half seems to drag a bit. It's just that when you watch the film, the canvas is picturesque, the characters are gorgeous and the story restores your faith in good, in love and in impossible relationships.
